CM Sukhu Transfers Teacher After Daughter’s Emotional Appeal, Ends 700-Km Separation in Himachal
An emotional appeal by a fifth-grade student has led to swift action in Himachal Pradesh, with Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu facilitating the transfer of her mother to a school closer to their home. The decision came within 24 hours of the young girl requesting the Chief Minister to help reunite her family.
The student, Vanshika, approached Sukhu during his visit to Dehgran village in Chamba district. Overcome with emotion, she hugged the Chief Minister and requested him to transfer her mother, who was posted nearly 700 kilometres away in Shimla district.
Her mother, Naro Devi, is a Junior Basic Training (JBT) teacher. She had been serving at a government primary school in Soval, under the Nerwa education block of Shimla district. The long distance had kept her away from her children for an extended period.
Daughter’s Emotional Appeal Moves Chief Minister
During the interaction, Vanshika explained that she had been living with her father and brother because of her mother’s distant posting. Her father, Girish Kumar, is a farmer.
The separation had been difficult for the family, particularly for the young student. Vanshika requested the Chief Minister to ensure that her mother could be posted near their home so they could live together.
Sukhu listened to the girl’s concerns, comforted her and assured her that the matter would be addressed. He also sought details about her mother’s posting and the circumstances faced by the family.
The Chief Minister’s assurance soon translated into an administrative decision. The School Education Directorate issued the transfer orders the following day, bringing relief to the family.
Teacher Transferred From Shimla to Chamba
Under the transfer order, Naro Devi has been shifted from Government Primary School Soval in the Nerwa education block of Shimla district to Government Primary School Chandru in the Tissa education block of Chamba district.
The transfer was approved under the government’s five per cent inter-district transfer policy. The Education Department granted relaxation from the general transfer restrictions to facilitate the move.
School Education Director Ashish Kohli confirmed that the transfer had been approved under the applicable policy provisions.
‘CM Uncle Fulfilled His Promise’
The transfer brought visible happiness to Vanshika and her family. The young girl expressed relief that her mother would now be able to stay closer to home.
She said the Chief Minister had fulfilled his promise and that she would no longer have to remain separated from her mother.
Vanshika also shared her ambition of studying at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya and eventually becoming an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer. Being closer to her mother is expected to provide her with greater family support as she prepares for her studies.
Naro Devi also expressed gratitude for the decision. She said the Chief Minister understood her daughter’s difficulties and acted quickly. The transfer will allow her to focus more closely on her children’s education and upbringing.
A Personal Appeal Leads to Administrative Action
The incident has drawn attention to the personal challenges faced by families of government employees posted far from their homes. For Vanshika, the issue was not simply about a transfer order. It was about being able to live with her mother again.
The swift decision has brought relief to the family and highlighted how individual grievances can receive attention through direct interaction with public representatives.
